February 6: Repetition

When we decide what we want to do, we usually choose to get good at it.  What is the best way to get good at something?

It doesn’t matter what it is.  The more we do something, the better we get at it.  Good or bad, repetition creates excellence.  Repetition begets mastery.

What is it you want to be really good at?  Basketball or some other sport?  Mathematics?  Relationships?  Writing?  Speaking?  A new skill in the work place?  Positive thinking?  Mindset?  Focus?  Being kind?  Complimenting others?  Being assertive?  Practicing healthy boundaries?  Becoming more consistent?  Eating more healthily?

We can be, do, or have anything we want.

At first, anything we try can be difficult, and then it gets easier and easier.  Most people give up on new things, because they are difficult and challenging, or evoke feelings of worthlessness or inadequacy, and as a result they never create the environment, circumstances, situations, and opportunities for personal success through repetition and consistency.  Repeating ANYTHING can become a habitual, automated practice, which either thwarts our efforts and limits us in our personal creation processes, or empowers us to create the life of our dreams.

It is this way with all things.  We didn’t just start walking and talking the day we were born.  We had to try, fail, learn, repeat, practice, and keep trying until we got it!  So it is with ANYTHING in life.

Good habits form as we continue to strive for excellence in the things we want to be good at, and as we practice and repeat them.  Our confidence grows and we earn credibility with ourselves and others, as we remain consistent and practice repetition.  Through repetition we can master anything.

Today’s challenge for myself:  Today I will decide on the one thing I want to practice and repeat in order to get better and better at it.  I will recognize my progress and acknowledge my successes in life.  I will take pride in my ability to learn anything I set my mind to, and I will keep at it.

John Assaraf is one of the best examples of personal progress and success, and touches upon the importance of repetition.  His interview on Impact Theory (found on YouTube) details how to start where we are and get better at anything.

Dr. Bruce Lipton ALSO teaches about the importance of repetition.  In fact, he teaches that it is one of the only ways we can reprogram the subconscious, automated mind as adults.  This is important and useful information.

February 5: Take Responsibility-PRACTICE EXTREME ACCOUNTABILITY.

“The one common factor in all of my failed relationships is me.”

-Simon Sinek

The first time I heard this, it hit me hard.  I had just experienced my third divorce, and had spent YEARS in relationship after relationship, blaming everyone I was with, in some way, for the failures I had experienced.  It took a lot of courage to admit it:  The one common factor in all of my failed relationships is me.  Saying it out loud felt like getting punched in the gut-HARD.  It was the beginning of a new life.

I think it is important for each of us to realize that we play a major role in every decision we make, as well as all of the consequences we have either enjoyed or suffered.  Every result, every outcome, and EVERYTHING that is going on in our lives, is a DIRECT RESULT of a choice we have made, actions of others we decided to tolerate, a perspective we chose to act upon, a meaning or judgement we chose to attach to a person, place, or thing, and the way we decided to think and believe about it all.  The quality of our actions are determined by the quality of our thoughts, beliefs, perspectives, and habits.

UNTIL WE CHOOSE TO UPGRADE OUR PERSONAL THOUGHTS, BELIEFS, PERSPECTIVES, AND HABITS, we will continue to experience the exact same personal reality.

Everything we did, good or bad, we did it.  WE chose that.  Yes, we may have been programmed with certain beliefs from a young age that empowered us or disempowered us, and yes, the advertising agencies bombard us with endless programming, telling us we are lacking, and when we buy what they want us to we will finally be happy, but ultimately, our decisions our OURS.

When blame dissolves into ownership, we EXPAND.

Every action or inaction we take is our decision.  If we are strong enough to own up to it, accept responsibility for it, and not make any excuses, it will grow our spirit and make us stronger, creating a higher sense of responsibility, a deeper connection to self, and a sense of credibility with ourself, a high level of self-pride, and EARNED self-esteem that will carry us through difficult decisions that will inevitably come.  Each time we make an excuse, it chinks away at our amour of personal strength and our self-esteem.  Excuses weakens not just us, and alters the way we view ourselves, but how others view us, as well.

When we are CONSISTENT with how we choose to show up in the world, we become progressively more and more dependable, predictable, and reliable to ourselves, and to others.  We trust ourselves more, and others will, too.

We can choose, at ANY TIME, to leave behind the habit of making excuses, and create the new and empowering habit of practicing EXTREME ACCOUNTABILITY AND OWNERSHIP.

Instead of playing the blame game, and forever remaining a victim, we can leave behind the world of excuses and blame, take back our power, and lean and expand into a life of constant, consistent progress, improvements, and personal evolution.

Today’s challenge for myself:  Today I will take responsibility for ALL of my actions, as well as the actions I have NOT taken, and admit that it is MY responsibility to fix anything I view as broken in my life.  I REFUSE TO BE A VICTIM.  Even though I may have been victimized, I will choose to no longer remain a victim.

John Maxwell has written over 100 short books on how to be a TRUE LEADER.  To lead others, we must first know how to lead OURSELVES.  Plug John Maxwell’s name into the YouTube search engine for a staggering dose of leadership.

A book I highly recommend is EXTREME OWNERSHIP, by The Navy Seal, Jocko Willink.  He also has an INCREDIBLE podcast with interesting guests, who have stories that have absolutely inspired me on to greater heights and more useful, habitual actions in my own life   Type his name into the YouTube search engine for an injection of strength, RIGHT INTO THE HEART!

February 4: Honest People

Years ago, my dad decided to attend a week-long retreat with his wife to spend time learning from, and interacting with, Neale Donald Walsch.  All week my dad didn’t say a word but noticed Neale looking his way quite often, probably expecting my dad to say something or participate in some way.

The last day, Neale finally asked my dad what he thought of the retreat.  His reply:

“I got a ticket last minute because my wife was already coming anyway.  I didn’t know much about you so I bought your books and while I probably got more from this retreat than most people here, every time I tried to read one of your books I fell asleep.”

Everyone laughed and Neale grinned.  He told my dad, “You could be my real friend. I like you.  Most people around me just tell me what they think I want to hear, but not you.  I like your honesty.”

Reminder to self:  Keep a few chosen ones in your life who will tell you the truth, make you uncomfortable, and challenge your belief system because they actually care, tell the truth, and are real, open, transparent, and honest. Some people do these things because they are mean spirited, and want to cause you the same level of pain they are currently experiencing.  Find the ones who really care and keep them around.

You will soon realize how incredibly valuable these people can and will be in your life.

Honesty matters.

Today’s challenge for myself:  Today I will put myself in an uncomfortable situation with someone who cares for me and ask what they think I could do differently that would make me a more effective person in achieving my goals.  I will share my goals.  I will share my purpose for my goals.  I will strive to remember the feedback I seek is not criticism and that it is coming from a place of love.

February 3: Protect The Weak

It’s simple.  We are all in this life thing together.  We don’t know what someone else may be going through.  We all have ups and downs, and we are all at different stages in this learning and experience process called life.  Sometimes we feel weak.  Sometimes we feel strong.  I choose to believe that at ALL times, we are EXACTLY who, what, and where we need to be., and that we are perfect the way we are and can be better tomorrow.  We are ENOUGH, just as we are.  IT IS WHAT WE TRULY ARE that makes this possible.

I like to believe that the Universe was designed to conspire on our behalf.  EVERYTHING that is happening TO us is actually happening FOR us.  We are constantly being prepared to be used as a tool by the Universe to contribute to the greater good of the collective whole.  One way we can contribute in a significant way is to protect those who may temporarily be in a weakened state because of the buffetings, challenges, and difficulties of this life.

I have been on the receiving end of kindness and generosity of others during incredibly challenging and devastating situations.  It lightened the load just knowing someone cared enough to help.  It gave me hope when I was feeling hopeless, and their help, love, and support strengthened me and inspired me to keep going when I just didn’t want to.

Along the way we may come across others who may be different, experiencing a weak moment or a difficult and challenging time, in need of a kind word, or may be in need of help dealing with a bully.  Nothing angers me more than someone who is demeaning, abusive, manipulative, and hurtful towards others.  Sometimes I do those things and I am angry with myself.

I think it is important to remember to protect the weak every chance we get.  The energy we put out into the Universe multiplies before returning unto us.  We get what we give.  There will absolutely come a time in our lives when we are in need of help or protection.  Let’s all give to others what we would want for ourselves.

Today’s challenge for myself:  Today I will lift up and protect anyone I come in contact with who may need it.  Even if it’s just a smile, a nod, or a hello, I will do what I can to lift another’s spirits in some way.

February 2: Practice

They say that practice makes perfect!  Repetition in anything will make us better at that particular thing.  What if what we are repetitiously and consistently practicing isn’t useful or helpful?  What if there is something better, or more optimal, for us to be practicing, that may empower us to live a much more enjoyable, pleasurable, and expansive life?

In my personal life, I have mastered poverty.  I practiced poor relationships and mastered that.  I mastered decades of certain ways of being that resulted in severe depression and hopelessness, and now, I am practicing and mastering their opposites.  Experiencing contrasts is a gift of life, and results don’t lie.  What we practice, we MASTER, and we can choose to change what we practice at ANY time.

That which we believe to be true BECOMES OUR TRUTH.  Our brains have a hardware device installed to seek out and support ANYTHING we choose to believe and focus on.  It is called the RAS (Reticular Activating System.)

It is entirely up to US to decide what is best for US.  Experimentation in life is the key to experiencing new things.  CONTRASTING EXPERIENCES allow us to quickly learn what we do or do not want more of.

One helpful tool I have discovered is to ONLY follow, mirror, and learn from those, who ALREADY HAVE what you want, and who are ALREADY living a life in alignment with the life you want for yourself.  PERFECT PRACTICE makes perfect.  It matters a great deal WHAT we repetitiously, consistently practice.

Mastery over anything is accomplished through repetition and consistent practice.

Let’s EMBRACE the failures and challenges, and let’s call it all PRACTICE.

Let’s embrace our imperfections and call them all PRACTICE.

If we are repeating a behavior that is destructive it becomes a habit and we become better and better at it.

If we are repeating a behavior that is creating a better version of our self, it becomes a habit and we become better and better at it.

CONSISTENT REPETITION IS THE KEY TO MASTERY.

Each day we wake up we get to choose what we focus on and what we are becoming better and better at.  It is entirely our responsibility.  It’s our choice and our choice alone what we choose to believe and become.  We are creating our self with everything we think, say, and do.  I think it is important to choose to practice, repeat, focus upon, and expend energy towards, ONLY the things that we want to become MORE of.

As we practice these things, we will watch and see as miracles happen in our lives and everything seems to eventually fall into place for us.  We can choose to practice the things which will make us more valuable and help and empower us add more value into not just our lives, but the lives of those around us.

Perceivably bad things may happen, but they won’t bother us as much as they used to.  They will no longer be our main focus, because now we are concentrating and focusing on creating.  As we change, so do our perceptions and beliefs about what is happening.  Instead of things happening TO us, we begin to realize that everything has been happening FOR us, all along.

When we remember to choose what we focus on and consistently practice, the results of our lives begin to align with that which we have chosen.  Why not focus on and practice that which has already resulted in what works well for others?  There are so many incredible, beautiful examples of different ways to live and BE in this world.  We can choose ANY one of them for ourselves, and begin expanding, evolving, and working towards THAT life, TODAY.

KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT WE DO WANT AND FOCUSING ALL OUR ENERGY, TIME, AND ATTENTION ON CREATING ONLY THAT, IS THE KEY TO CREATING A LIFE DEVOID OF WHAT WE DON’T WANT.

Today I will practice the things I want to be better or amazing at.  I will practice the things that a future version of myself will thank me for later.  If I don’t yet know what those are, I will make a list.  Clarity of vision in what we want makes it more probable we will achieve that vision.

One of the best books I’ve ever come across in my life is MINDSET, by Carol Dweck.  It speaks volumes about the importance of PRACTICING, and was written for young children, students, parents, business executives, and ANYONE who wants to get better at ANYTHING.  ❤️

This video will give you an idea of what the Growth Mindset is all about and is absolutely worth watching and sharing.

February 1: Time

Reminder to self:

Time is the most valuable commodity in existence.  You can’t get it back.  Yesterday is gone.  Tomorrow may never come.  All we have is now.

Make it a habit to BE in the present moment.  Learn to practice enjoying the little pleasures in the here and now.

The older we get the more precious time becomes.  Some of us realize we have been wandering about, aimlessly, and then begin to realize how much of our precious time we have wasted up to this point, and how much more we want to do, accomplish, acquire, and become, before our time runs out!

This life is too short not to enjoy each and every moment.  It is too short not to savor each and every experience.  Through the artful practices of gratitude and appreciation, we can learn to habituate the enjoyment of each and every moment and experience.

How can we make the most of this moment?  How can we make the most of this day?  I believe that we can make the most of this moment and this day by consistently thinking, saying, and DOING all we possibly can to enjoy and appreciate life to the fullest, while contributing to others, and through being the best possible version of ourselves, practicing gratitude, being compassionate, and letting go.  We can go to bed tonight exhausted, and with a smile on our faces, because we have no regrets for this day and we know we did our very best throughout this entire day.

Today I will live each moment of this day to the best of my ability by consistently thinking, saying, and DOING the things that will help me in any way to accomplish my goals, enjoy the pleasures of this moment, treat others with compassion, focus on everything I have to be grateful for, and to be the best version of myself I can possibly be.

Through the work and teachings of Eckhart Tolle, I have learned how to start practicing how to better let go and BE in the present moment, and how to enjoy the here and now.  It is a life-long practice, and it never ends-that is the beauty of it.  It’s all about the journey.  I highly recommend his book, THE POWER OF NOW.  The audio version can be found for free on YouTube.  I also recommend plugging his name into YouTube, and listening to ANY content available featuring this man.  His life story is incredible, and highly useful to anyone who chooses to listen to it.

January 31: Be Yourself

Just be yourself.

What does that even mean?

I was at work and one guy said to another, “Dude, that’s just the way I was raised!” to which the other replied, “Yeah, but do you really want to live the way you were raised?”

That made me think.  Most parents are at an age and a stage in their lives (while they are raising little ones) when they are young and inexperienced.  Not that they are bad parents!  Most of them simply haven’t yet learned or experienced what they are about to for the next few decades as people.  We are all doing the best we can for what we know and with all we have been through.

I read a quote on Facebook that said, “Your mom is so great at pushing all of your buttons because she knows exactly where they are.  She installed those buttons.”  That made me laugh out loud.  How true.  We all tend to pass our best onto our children, AND some of our worst.

20 years later, sometimes our best has become better and we have changed and evolved.  Sometimes, even after 20 years, we have chosen to stay the same, and have chosen to keep operating within the exact same parameters of old teachings, and old programming.  What parent wouldn’t want to go back in time, knowing all that they now know, and empower their children with even MORE knowledge, wisdom, experience, and strength?  Most parents ALWAYS have it in the forefront of their minds to help their babies, AT ANY AGE, to optimize their lives in EVERY away.  How beautiful that is.

When I was raised I thought I was being taught to do as I was told and question nothing.  Parents from all over would ask my mother, “How can I make my children behave like that?”  I was considered the Golden Child because I questioned nothing and always did as I was told.  At that time in life, I didn’t rebel or act out.  Eventually, when I moved out and started living my own life in my twenties, I had to start thinking for myself.  I made a lot of “mistakes” and learned so much.  I had to find myself.  I had to re-create myself.  I had to learn to think for myself.  I fell on my face, over and over.  I now see the value in questioning everything, experimenting with new beliefs and habits, and keeping only what works for me, personally.

RESULTS DON’T LIE.  If we are unhappy with our current circumstances, WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THEM.

We all have a choice.  Either we can continue on into adulthood and our adult lives living as we were taught, believing what we were taught to, or we can question all our beliefs and decide on the ones we want to keep for ourselves, just like with The goodinthehead Beliefs Project.  Google this project for empowering, life-altering, helpful ideas.

To THINK differently is nice, but unless we consistently DO differently, everything will stay the same.

We are capable of thinking ANYTHING we want to, at any given moment.  Thought is a creation, and since we are consistently thinking, we are consistently CREATING.  The thoughts we think the most, focus on most frequently, and spend the most time, energy, and attention on, eventually manifest themselves in the physical realm, in the form of ACTIONS and OUTCOMES.

I had a dream, in which my wife and I were going to pick up some food we had ordered.  The place had been remodeled, and where we were to pick up the food was behind a door with a golden latch.  As we went through the door, we were directed to a dark corner, where we waited to be helped.  It was too dark for us to be noticed.  In the pitch black was a counter and a window, waist-high, made of wood, where we could pick up our food.  I rapped on the wooden counter with my knuckles, and spoke into the darkness:  “We are here for our food.  It’s kind of dark over here.  I think you need a lamp, or something.”  I laughed, nervously.   An Indian man, with a smile, a belly, and long hair pulled up in a pony tail appeared, dressed in dark slacks and a colorful, button-up, short-sleeve shirt.  He was talking to someone else in the darkness from where he had emerged, explaining the three secrets to manifesting ALL of our desires.  We noticed that as he walked into the darkness before us that there was no source of light.  HE was the source of light.

I asked him to repeat the three secrets of manifesting abundance.  He quickly ran through his short story.  I cannot remember his words.  I only remember condensing it all with this question: “So if we VISUALIZE, BELIEVE, and FEEL GOOD ALL OF THE TIME, we can attract into our lives all that is needed, allowing the Universe to conspire on our behalf more effectively, making a potentially long and painful life journey into a very fast and enjoyable result or outcome?”

The man’s eyebrows shot up in disbelief that I had immediately understood the meaning and purpose behind the story.  “Yes!  YES!”

Then I awoke.  I immediately wrote down the interpretation of the story before my dream faded and I forgot the three keys to unlocking the doors to manifesting abundance.

We can decide to cast off the beliefs we believe to be harmful or unhelpful to us, or we can keep believing the same things, repeating the same behaviors, feeling the same ways, doing the same things, and living out the results of the same lives.

RESULTS DON’T LIE.

If we look in the mirror, or we take an honest look at our lives, and we don’t like what we see, we can choose to change.  We can choose to begin creating something and someone greater than we now behold.  We were programmed with the ability to construct a belief system that will help us be the best possible version of ourselves we can possibly be every day for the rest of our lives.  It is by doing so that we change, grow, evolve, and experience the happiness that comes by doing so.

Our gift to the world is giving the best of ourselves we can in each moment!  This is what creates happiness and beauty and the exact life we deserve.

When we consistently do our best, our best consistently becomes better.

I think that this is what, “Be yourself” means.  Be your BEST self, at all times.  That is enough.  It always will be.

Today I will question everything.  I will start a list of my beliefs and decide which ones are effective and helpful and which ones are not.  I will do the best I can at being the best version myself, instead of what everyone else expects and wants me to be.  Today I will be my best self that I can possibly be and I will make that a HABIT.  I will remember that it is enough, and that so am I.  I am enough simply being me and doing my best.

January 30: Reactions

We can tell a lot about ourselves, and our current emotional state, by the way we react in any given situation.  It helps us to become more self aware, and is information instructing and inspiring us on how we can do even better.  Our reactions inform us how far we have already come and how much we have grown and improved.

Am I consistent in my mood?  Do I react similarly in all situations?  Are there certain circumstances that I need to watch for?  What triggers me and causes me to act poorly, and how can I improve this?

How do I act when I am stressed or under extreme pressure?  What comes out of me then?

Am I accepting of myself, my feelings, and my moods?  Am I capable of loving and accepting myself NO MATTER WHAT?

I think it is useful if we choose to practice empathy and acceptance towards ourselves and others when asking these questions.  Sometimes, asking such questions can be difficult, as we don’t always like the honest, truthful answers that come.

There is a beautiful metaphor about an orange that Wayne Dyer shares.  To see this or listen to it, type, WAYNE DYER ORANGE METAPHOR, into the YouTube search engine.

However we react to any given situation, we can remember that we are doing our best and that is all we need to do.  The first interview created, featuring Lewis Howes and Marisa Peer on YouTube, is incredibly helpful in remembering that we are enough, just as we are, and we can always become more of who we are and do even better.

Today’s challenge for myself:  Today I will be mindful of my own reactions and accepting of myself and others and the way we react in any given situation, remembering to practice compassion, kindness, and understanding, as we are all different and we are all in different stages of learning in our own personal life experiences.  I will let go of the need for things to be any certain way.

January 29: Focus

We become what we think about.  Our repeated, consistent, habitual thoughts, and what we focus on, are what will come out of our mouths today.  Our repeated, consistent, habitual thoughts, and what we focus on, are what we will DO today.  Our thoughts, words, and actions, and what we choose to consistently focus on, are what we are becoming at all times.  They are all a part of the constant, Self-Recreation process, taking place in every moment of every day.  The outer, physical world constantly and consistently rushes to manifest the inner world we are constantly and consistently projecting and creating, through intensely focused thought and visualization patterns, the words we speak, and the ACTIONS WE TAKE that are in alignment with the WHO we identify as, while in these bodies.

What we choose to focus on and RE-focus on, all day and every day, is the most important part of our day.

Our focus creates within us the mindset that will carry us on to a successful, fulfilling, happy, energetic life, or down the drain to depression, hopelessness, anxiety, impatience, and unhappiness.  It is ALWAYS one or the other.  We are ALWAYS either EXPANDING or RETRACTING.  This life is a practice in the art of creation.

WE are the designers of our destiny.  WE are the creators of our reality.

What we attract, manifest, and create doesn’t come as much from THOUGHT, as much as it does from HOW WE FEEL because of our thinking.

Every thought we choose to focus on is either creating or destroying our lives, goals, objectives, desires, and everything we are and who we are to become.  It is what we DO, and the ACTIONS WE TAKE, to align our outward, physical, personal realities with these thoughts, that matter most.  It all starts with our thinking, but without ACTING UPON THOSE THOUGHTS, the thinking won’t matter.  The thinking creates possibilities within The Field of the Quantum Realm, but unless acted upon, those possibilities shrink, wither, and die.

TO KNOW, AND NOT TO DO, IS NOT TO KNOW.

I think it is important to remember to be mindful of what we watch, read, listen to, think about, and what we allow to take up space in our minds every single minute of every single day.  Our chosen, repeated content matters!

WE MUST STAND WATCH AT THE DOORS OF OUR MINDS, LIKE A GUARD PROTECTING ALL OF THE WEALTH AND ABUNDANCE WE POSSESS, LEST A THIEF STEALS IT AWAY IN THE NIGHT.

Distractions are plentiful.  The need to fill the void of emptiness and validation are programmed within us from a young age by greedy people, promising fulfillment and happiness if we will simply buy their products, but the void is actually filled FROM WITHIN US.  Our thinking makes it so.

OUR REAL WORK IS OUR OWN, INNER CONNECTION.

Today I will be mindful of my thoughts and what I am focusing on.  I will choose wisely what I allow to enter into my mind, remembering that what I am focusing on and thinking about repeatedly and consistently will soon manifest itself in my life.  I will remember Earl Nightingale’s teaching:  WE BECOME WHAT WE THINK ABOUT.

What better way to start the day than with a perspective check that helps shift our focus towards something we believe is beneficial and will add to our own personal growth and improvement? Reminders like this have value, especially when reviewed at the start of a day as part of a consistent, daily, morning routine.
Each of these messages are meant to remind us of what we already believe to be important and beneficial in our daily lives, and to aid in the re-focusing process many of us don’t even realize we so desperately need. It has become increasingly more difficult to focus on what truly matters with all the many distractions which are now so prevalent in our lives.
This website was created to remind myself in some small way, each and every day, that Mindset matters, that Character counts, and that FOCUS IS EVERYTHING.
That which we focus upon tends to manifest itself in our lives, more and more. The more intense our focus, the quicker the thing we focus upon manifests.
It is my deepest desire that this website will benefit you as much as it has benefited me.

If this message speaks to you, helps you, or adds value to you in any way, please share it on social media. Help spread the light!
