May 19: You Are More Capable Than You Think

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the thoughts and fears in our heads that we don’t or can’t take action.  “Get in your head and you’re dead,” as Tony Robbins puts it.

Humans are amazing.  We have the potential to accomplish and to do so much!  Look at all of the amazing feats performed by some of the people you admire most.  How did they get that good?  How did they accomplish so much?  Ask any of them, and they will tell you that they started small.  They didn’t accomplish that amazing feat “all of a sudden.”  It wasn’t a huge leap in capabilities and talent that led them to their success, but rather, small, consistent steps, gradually taken over time.

It was, in many cases, years of hard work and practice.  When they began, THEY didn’t think they were even capable of such feats and success!  As they took one small step at a time, their confidence grew.  They gained credibility with themselves and others.  They gradually became stronger.  Their capabilities increased.  The hard work and practice almost became a fun game as they accomplished more and more than they ever thought they were capable of!  They stopped listening to the naysayers and started focusing on the task at hand.

I LOVE when people break through barriers and show us all what is possible.  In 1954, Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile.  That same year, because people realized it was POSSIBLE, more than 20 other people did the same!  It had never been done before, but Roger Bannister redefined what was possible, and others followed suit.

Reminder to self:  You are more capable than you think.  One small action will get the snowball rolling down the hill until it becomes a huge, unstoppable, dangerous force.

MOMENTUM MATTERS.

One step in the right direction can and will change you forever for the better, if you choose to let it.

Today I will remember that I am capable of great things, and remember that even if it takes me decades, I am capable of accomplishing any dream.
