June 2: Zoom Out

Sometimes, to see the whole picture and keep a healthy perspective on things, we need to zoom out.  Just like on our electronics, zooming out enables us to see more of the bigger picture.

ZOOMING OUT OFFERS A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE.

Life can be likened unto a video game.  In a first-person shooter game, if you are able to take just a few seconds and look around, it makes all the difference.  The thing is, in the game and in life, sometimes we are so busy, distracted, in a hurry, or just trying to survive, that we think we we don’t have a few seconds to look around.  The game is one thing, but in life it can make the difference between failure or success, between depression or happiness, between stress or peace of mind, and even actual life or death.  Slowing down, choosing to take the time to look around, and zooming out for an alternate perspective is SUPER useful.

In the military they adhere to a saying as a reminder:

SLOW IS SMOOTH, AND SMOOTH IS FAST.

Meditation and breath work are my preferred methods I use to zoom out.  I began meditating after listening to the audiobook, STRESS LESS, ACCOMPLISH MORE, by Emily Fletcher.  I began  box breathing when I first heard about it through Mark Divine, and I began Wim Hof breathing when I learned about it, a few years after that.  These practices have empowered me with moments throughout the day to zoom out, look at the larger picture, and refocus and re-align, then begin again.

Take a pause.  Zoom out.  Look at the big picture.  The best, most effective  way I have found to do this is through the practice of meditation.  I highly recommend watching the YouTube interview featuring Emily Fletcher on Impact Theory, and buying her book, “Stress Less, Accomplish More.”  It made a MASSIVE difference in my mind, the way I think, how I speak, what I do, and in the results of the life that I now enjoy.

If we are to enjoy a positive, meaningful, happy life, we can choose to realize and believe that our life, and things in general, are MUCH better than we think they are.

Think of 10 things in your life you are most grateful for.  Now, re-focus.  Are the things you are spending most of your time thinking about, talking about, focused upon, and doing, empowering you and propelling you towards what you want MORE of and helping you accomplish your goals?

How far do you need to zoom out for a perspective check?

Today I will remember to take a pause, zoom out, and look at the big picture.  I will re-focus on what I want and the things that will get me there.
